Why Refresh your data in Power BI?

Before You Begin:
Data refresh options vary depending on your Power BI licence. Here’s a clear breakdown of how data refresh works under different Power BI licences:
Power BI Free
- You can connect to data and build reports in Power BI Desktop.
- No scheduled refresh is available in the cloud. There’s only manual refresh in Desktop.
Power BI Pro
- Allows up to 8 scheduled refreshes per day in the Power BI Service.
- Manual refresh is also available at any time.
- Best for individuals or small teams.
- Maximum refresh duration: 2 hours per refresh
Power BI Premium (per capacity or per user)
- Supports up to 48 scheduled refreshes per day (every 30 minutes).
- Provides larger dataset sizes and faster refresh performance.
- Ideal for enterprise-scale or complex data models.
Note: A Power BI Pro license allows up to 8 scheduled refreshes per day. A Premium license increases this to 48 scheduled refreshes per day. Free licences don’t support scheduled refresh in the Service.
